WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Photoshop
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Photoshop, computer application software used to edit and manipulate digital images. Photoshop was developed in 1987 by the American brothers Thomas and John Knoll, who sold the distribution license to Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1988.
Bring out the best in your photos with these fundamental photo-editing techniques.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!
This will save the file to your Photography or Downloads folder!
Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S
(or File: SAVE AS)
Save to YOUR COMPUTER!
Click the Save on Your Computer button
On the left click THIS PC
Select Desktop
Select Photography Folder
Name the document:
"First Name Last Name SELECT"
Click SAVE
Let's Begin!
Make sure the FRUIT Layer is selected!
Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool
Remember, the Rectangular Marquee Tool might be in a "folder" (look for the triangle on the bottom right corner of a tool!)
Select Start at the top left corner and drag diagonally down to the right to make a rectangular selection around the entire GRAPEFRUIT image, including its geen background!
Click the Create New Adjustment Layer icon on the layers panel and select HUE/SATURATION.
This will create a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer that you will use to edit the seleted part of the image!
Notice the new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. An adjustment layer lets you edit nondestructively, without directly changing the image. this adjustment layer will affect only the selected area!
The controls for an adjustment layer are in the Properties Panel.
Drag the HUE slider to about +30 (to the right) until the grapefruit looks like a lemon!
It should ONLY effect the grapefruit and it's background!
Click on the FRUIT LAYER to select it
Select the LASSO Tool
This tool will allow you to draw your own selection!
Remember, the LASSO Tool might be in a "folder" (look for the triangle on the bottom right corner of a tool!)
With the Lasso Tool, Click and drag the mouse around the Kiwi and its shadow on the top right image
Select the EYEDROPPER Tool.
This will allow you to sample colors!
Remember, the EYEDROPPER Tool might be in a "folder" (look for the triangle on the bottom right corner of a tool!)
Using the Eyedropper tool, click on the light blue background of the top right photo to sample that color.
Notice the color is placed in the FOREGROUND color box at the bottom of the Toolbar
Choose EDIT> FILL
Open the Contents Menu and choose Foreground color. Make sure the Mode is Normal and the Opacity is 100%.
Click OK to fill your selection with the color sampled by the Eyedropper tool.
What happened?
Choose Select>Deselect.
or press Crtl + D
Click on the BOWL Layer
Click the Object Selection Tool
Remember, the Object Selection Tool might be in a "folder" (look for the triangle on the bottom right corner of a tool!)
Drag a rectanglular selection around just the fruit bowl.
When you finish drawing the rectangle, the object selection tool selects the main objects inside the rectangle!
Click the Add to selection option (2nd from the left in this icon group on top), so you can add your selection in the next step!
Drag more rectangles around the rest of the fruit to add them to the selection!
Click the Create a new adjustment layer and choose Brightness/Contrast.
This creates another adjutment layer which you will use to change the brightness of the selected fruit!
Drag the Brightness slider to the right to about +20 to make the selected fruit pop!
Select the BOY layer
On the top panel, choose Select>Subject
this will create a selection of just subject on the boy layer!
On the top panel, choose Select>Subject
This will create a selection of just subject on the boy layer!
Click the Create a new adjustment layer and choose Color Balance.
This creates another adjustment layer which you will use to make a change to the subject you selected
In the Properties Panel, move the Yellow/Blue slider to about+50 to change the color of the area you selected.

Go to our Classroom in TEAMS
Select Assignments
Select
Adobe Photoshop: Get to know Selections!
Scroll down to MY WORK
Click +ATTACH
Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE
Select DESKTOP (on the left) then the PHOTOGRAPHY Folder
Find the PSD file and select it (it should be called First Name Last Name SELECT.psd)
Click OPEN
Wait for files to upload
File will show up below under My Work
CLICK TURN IN!
NOTE: There MUST be an Adobe Photoshop (.psd) file attached to get credit. Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!
