WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Downloading from an SD card
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: It is important to download from an SD card correctly to prevent file corruption, ensure data integrity, avoid data loss, maintain device performance, and extend the life of the SD card itself. Incorrect removal can lead to unusable data, failed transfers, or damaged storage, so using the "safely remove" or "eject" function is crucial.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will practice and turn in an edited image you got from the SD card!
Double click to open the folder on your desktop.
If you do NOT have a Photography folder, MAKE ONE (right click...New Folder)
Create a NEW FOLDER INSIDE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY FOLDER
Name the folder:
SD CARD TEST
Click the VIEW tab to see the choices.
Currently this is LIST or DETAILS View:
Extra Large Icon View:
DID YOU KNOW!
You can change the VIEW of how you see inside a folder?
On the top of a Folder, click the VIEW TAB.
A Pull Down menu gives different choices!
Icons will show you IMAGES (like your Photos in JPG)
Details will show you the file information (type, size, date etc)
Card readers are attached to your computers!
Please do NOT move computers or try to detach!
When inserting a card, do NOT force it!
If your computer is on
the left of your monitor, the label faces AWAY from you!
Computers 1-5, 11-15, 21-25
If your computer is on
the right of your monitor, the label faces TOWARDS
you!
Computers 6-10, 16-20, 26-30
Open Photography then open SD CARD TEST folder
Move the new window over (so you can still see the SD CARD TEST folder)

Before you let go of the mouse, you will see + Copy
Drag ALL the images INTO THE SD CARD TEST FOLDER you created!
This will place a copy in that folder!
Each day you take photos you will make sure to download images BEFORE leaving class!
Now...
To remove the disk (without damaging it)
On the SD Card (EOS DIGITAL or Removable Disk):
Look on the left hand panel
Right click the SD Card (EOS_DIGITAL or Removable Disk)
Select EJECT
Carefully take the card out of the reader!
Make sure your
SD CARD TEST FOLDER is still open!
If you have the SD card in your hand and the images are still seen on your computer you copied them correctly!
Now! Hand the disk to the next person in your row! Next person will repeat!!
If there is an issue, please tell me ASAP!

Create a NEW LAYER and use the Spot Healing or patch tools to clean it up!
Remember to make sure Content-Aware is selected AND Sample All Layers is checked!
Make sure your adjustment layers are ON the TOP in the layers panel so that any other alterations (spot healing etc) are adjusted also!
ADD A VIGNETTE! (all images MUST have this!)
A vignette is a darker border - sometimes as a blur or a shadow - at the outer edges of a photo.
Use the Add a vignette filter to reduce the saturation at the edges of your image compared to its center and add a little dimension!
Add the VIGNETTE when you have made all of your other edits!
Make sure you have made the layer a Smart Layer. You will see the icon on the thumbnail!
Without and with a vignette:
Make sure the vignette is dark (black) and NOT WHITE
Be careful not to go too far or it will look forced!
ADD A SIGNATURE! (all images MUST have this!)
Let's add a TEXT layer to sign our photo!
Each image MUST have YOUR signature on the bottom right!
Select the Horizontal Type Tool
Click in the image near the BOTTOM RIGHT corner
Type YOUR First & Last Name
Notice! There is now a Text layer and the name of the layer is YOUR name!
Selected text
With the Horizontal Text Tool still selected, triple click (3x) your name
or click and pull to select your entire name.
With the text selected (highlighted)...
In the Properties Panel, change the font (you choose) under Character by clicking the pull down (arrow) menu
TIP: Try a Script font by clicking the filters on the left (Script). Don't pick a cutesy or display font as they are hard to read!
With the text still selected...
Click the box to the right of COLOR
Make your name WHITE
Different ways to do this:
Click the top left corner of the color picker
or RGB 255 each
or CMYK 0 each
or Hex #ffffff
Click OK
ONLY use WHITE or BLACK for your signature!
(If the photo is dark, use WHITE. If the photo is light, use black!)
Text is large enough to read and does NOT over power the image!
Take a moment to check the Font SIZE
Is it an acceptable size as to not over power the photo?
Font and Size should small but legible!
Clear enough to read but not over shadowing the image.
Leave a little room to the right and bottom so the text is not touching the edge...
Go to the MOVE TOOL (the 4 sided arrow) in the tool bar
Click and pull on the inside of the text of your name to move your name so it sits on the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER and looks acceptable (like a signature)
Be careful NOT to pull on any of the handles or it will change its size!
