WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Photoshop
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Photoshop, computer application software used to edit and manipulate digital images. Photoshop was developed in 1987 by the American brothers Thomas and John Knoll, who sold the distribution license to Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1988.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will practice different tools and techniques and gradually show your success!
This will save the file to your PHOTOGRAPHY or Downloads folder!
Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S
(or File: SAVE AS)
Save as Type: PHOTOSHOP!
Then click Save to Cloud Documents
Save to CREATIVE CLOUD!
Click the Save to CREATIVE CLOUD button
Name the photo:
"Your Initials ICE CREAM"
Click SAVE
Click WINDOW>TIMELINE to open the Timeline Panel at the bottom of the screen.
Click Create Frame Animation in the middle of the Timeline Panel. If Create Video Timeline is showing, click the arrow to the right, choose Create Frame animation...
Then Click the Create Frame Animation box to create the first frame
Frame 1 of your animation is now in the Timeline panel! It is made up of all of the layers that are now visible in the Layers Panel.
Click the time (0 sec.) under frame 1, and choose 0.5 to set the display time for this frame to 0.5 seconds.
Click the Duplicate selected frames icon (+) at the bottom left of the Timeline to duplicate frame 1.
Click the eye icon on the Ice Pop 1 layer to hide the layer.
Select Frame 2 and click Duplicate selected frames (+).
In the Layers Panel, click the eye icon to hide the Ice Pop 2 layer
Select frame 3 and click Duplicate selected frames (+).
Click the eye icon to hide the Ice Pop 3 layer
Select frame 4 and click Duplicate selected frames (+).
Click the eye icon on the Ice Pop 4 layer to hide the layer.
Select frame 5 and click Duplicate selected frames (+).
Click the eye icon on the Ice Pop 5 layer to hide the layer.
Run the animation!
Click the play button on the timeline to see the animation
Export file...
Click FILE> Export>Save for Web (Legacy)
In the Dialog box...
File settings change to GIF (etc, see above)...click SAVE
PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU CLICK SAVE!
It will save to DOCUMENTS or DESKTOP
Save the file to the DESKTOP or your Photography or Downloads Folder
File Name should be:
Your Initals IceCream.gif
Do NOT close PHOTOSHOP until your are sure!!!
Go to our Classroom in TEAMS
Select Assignments
Select
Photoshop: ICE CREAM!!
Scroll down to MY WORK
Click +ATTACH
Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE
Select DESKTOP (on the left) then the PHOTOGRAPHY Folder
Find the GIF file we EXPORTED and select it:
Your Initials ICE CREAM.gif
Click OPEN
Wait for file to upload
File will show up below under My Work
CLICK TURN IN!
NOTE: There MUST be an animated GIF file (that has been adjused in Photoshop and named correctly) attached to get credit. Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!

Let's go further! POPCORN!
Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S
(or File: SAVE AS)
Save as Type: PHOTOSHOP!
Then click Save to Cloud Documents
Save to CREATIVE CLOUD!
Click the Save to CREATIVE CLOUD button
Name the photo:
"Your Initials POPCORN"
Click SAVE
Add your name!
On the First Last Name layer...double click the "T" Thumbnail to highlight the text and type your name in the text box on the artboard
(technically you are adding your signature!)
Tip: The lines around each piece of Popcorn are made with a path
These are here to show you where each piece is during this process!
Let's add some pop...
The file has 3 layers, the layer for your name, the KERNELS layer and the POPCORN layer.
Select the POPCORN layer and create a layer mask by clicking the Create Layer Mask Icon at the bottom of the Layers Panel
Invert the mask, by selecting the MASK THUMBNAIL and clicking Ctrl + i (Mask thumbnail should now be black!)
Notice the "Paths" still show where the popcorn actually is on the layer! Don't worry these will not show up on the export!
Sneak a Peak...
Select the LAYER MASK on the POPCORN layer
Chose the Brush tool, and set the foreground color to WHITE.
(Tip: Make sure the Opacity is 100%)
Then, paint over kernal on the top left corner (on the mask) to reveal the first piece of popcorn.
Tip: Make sure you have the LAYER MASK selected!!!
You will see the white keyline around the mask when it is selected.
Remember WHITE reveals and BLACK conseals!
Reveal in stages...
This step takes time! Duplicate the layer where the first popcorn kernel was revealed...
Ctrl+J or drag the layer to the (+) at the bottom of the Layers Panel.
Then, paint with a WHITE (white is the foreground color) brush to reveal more popcorn!
Repeat this step (example: Duplicate the layer where the second popcorn kernel was revealed, click on the layer mask, with white, paint so the popcorn kernel to reveal) until you have a lot of layers (at least 50! 1 for each piece of popcorn revealed!) and all of the popcorn from the layer below is visible.
Tip:
When brushing to show the popcorn make sure to paint over the kernals beside the popcorn also!

Note the kernals are gone beside the popped corn!
After each piece reveal...
Ctrl + J to Duplicate that layer!
Make sure to then select the new layer's layer mask!
YOU WILL HAVE APPROXIMATELY 50 LAYERS...1 for each piece of popcorn! (yes it's alot!)
When you are done masking the layers...
Create the Timeline...
After you have revealed each piece of popped popcorn... (each on a new layer!)
Click Create Frame Animation from the Timeline (Window > Timeline).
Remember to select CREATE FRAME ANIMATION to make the first frame!!
Click CREATE FRAME ANIMATION to create the FIRST FRAME! Make sure the time for the frame is 0 seconds!
Make animation frames...
To create each state of animation, choose Make Frames From Layers from the Timeline.
In the Timeline, click the menu and select ALL FRAMES
Now go to the LAYERS PANEL
TURN ON YOUR NAME LAYER
Turn the KERNALS Layer off and back on (This will apply it to all frames!)
In the Timeline Menu...
Loop It and Reverse it...
Click the menu (the lines on the top right of the Timeline) and Choose Select All Frames
Click the menu and select Copy Frames.
Click the menu and select Paste Frames.
After choosing PASTE Frames
Select Paste AFTER Selection
Click OK
Reverse it...
Finally, (the new frames should still be selected) click the menu and choose Reverse Frames so the popcorn will appear to pop and unpop.
Click Play in the Timeline to preview the animation.
Export file...
Click FILE> Export>Save for Web (Legacy)
In the Dialog box...
File settings change to GIF. Preset to GIF...Colors 256
Check Transparency
...click SAVE
Save GIF file to your PHOTOGRAPHY FOLDER (Your Initials Popcorn.gif)
Note: You will need to click DESKTOP>Photography Folder!!!
Click SAVE
PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU CLICK SAVE!
It will save to DOCUMENTS or DESKTOP
